Jabal Al Jadaa (Al Jadaa Hill) is one of the oldest inhabited hills in the historic city of Salt and the first hill visible when entering the city from Al Bayyada. It is named after a strong widow known as “Al Jadaa,” meaning the steadfast or resilient woman. After her husband’s death, she courageously reclaimed her rightful dues from a powerful man in the neighborhood, and her reputation for strength spread widely. People began referring to the area as the place near “the strong woman,” and the name remained.

That an entire hill carries her name stands as a testament to the strength of Jordanian women and the enduring power of personal courage in collective memory. Over generations, the hill became home to Salt’s families, later witnessing demographic and social transitions. Its tightly connected golden-stone houses reflect both architectural beauty and the social cohesion that has long defined the neighborhood.
